Mountain biking etiquette is essential for ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone on the trails. At Blacktown Trails, we believe a proper etiquete ensures a great quality time on our tours. Here are some key points to keep in mind:

General Guidelines
  1. Yield Appropriately:
    • Hikers and Runners: Always yield to pedestrians. Slow down, and if necessary, stop to let them pass.
    • Downhill vs. Uphill Bikers: Generally, uphill bikers have the right of way. If you're descending, be prepared to yield.
  2. Stay on Designated Trails: Avoid cutting new trails or riding off established paths to protect the environment. Always follow the guide. Do not try to overtake the guide or try leaving the group for short cuts.
  3. Control Your Speed: Be aware of your surroundings and reduce speed in crowded areas or when approaching blind corners.

Trail Etiquette
  1. Communicate: Use bell signals, voice, or hand signals to alert others of your presence, especially when overtaking.
  2. Leave No Trace: Pack out what you pack in, and respect nature by not disturbing wildlife or damaging plants.
  3. Respect Other Users: Be friendly and courteous to everyone on the trail. A simple greeting can go a long way.

Maintenance and Safety
  1. Check Your Gear: Before heading out, ensure your bike is in good working condition to prevent accidents. Although our guides are equipped with all the proper gear for first aid and on site repairements, it is important to bring the proper gear. We will let you know before your tour, what are the key items to bring.
  2. Bring your bike in good conditions. Bringing your bike in good condition is crucial for safety and performance.

By following these guidelines, you’ll help create a positive experience for yourself and others on the trails!
